Pence or Pelosi? Who Will Be the Next President?

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has finally filed for impeachment. Almost anything could happen now.

DJT could be acquitted and remain in office until 2020 or longer. Some sources have suggested that DJT might refuse to peacefully step down from office when his term ends.

Trump might be kicked out of the White House on his fat rump to waiting FBI agents to spend the rest of his life in Leavenworth (or if found guilty of treason), Gitmo. If he is removed from office, Vice President Mike Pence would then become president. We can only hope and pray that he would not annul the First Amendment. Christian Dominionists scare me.

I’ve been told that #PresidentPelosi is trending online. Apparently DJT threw Pence under the bus, suggesting Mike Pence may be equally involved in the Ukrainian situation. Under the current presidential chain of command the line goes from president to vice president to Speaker of the House to president pro tem of the Senate and then to various Cabinet secretaries. Given DJT’s habit of preferring acting administrators to actual department heads, many current Cabinet secretaries may be ineligible.

Nothing is certain at the moment, but it seems likely either Pence or Pelosi may wind up president for a few months. If so, whom is either likely to nominate for VP or Cabinet?

For Pelosi, she has an embarrassment of riches for potential nominees. Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Julian Castro, Cory Booker, Tulsi Gabbard, Beto O’Rourke, etc., etc.

Pence would not nominate Nikki Haley, Susan Collins, Sarah Palin, nor Michele Bachmann. Like most Christian Dominionists, he’s afraid women will tempt him and that he’ll be unable to resist the temptation. If he nominated Jeb Bush, he’d probably refuse. I very much doubt #MoscowMitch would give up his current power in the Senate for the dubious “honor” of being vice president. Nor would Sen. McConnell’s Russian masters want him removed from his current position. He’s more useful to Vladimir Putin where he is now. Mitt Romney, not sure. Ted Cruz, maybe: I believe Sen. Cruz is also a Christian Dominionist.
